The Dizzy Gillespie Big 7 (1975)

In the summer of 1975, jazz impresario Norman Granz gathered a powerhouse ensemble—Dizzy Gillespie’s Big 7—and embarked on a European odyssey. From backstage camaraderie to blistering bebop solos, viewers witness Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Clark Terry, and tenor titans “Lockjaw” Davis and Johnny Griffin trading lightning-fast phrases. Highlights include electrifying Montreux Festival sets, Milt Jackson’s shimmering vibes duels, and Tommy Flanagan’s piano virtuosity driving the rhythm section. This film captures seven masters converging in peak form.
